Comparison is the thief of your joy!
You can hate the player or you can hate the game, but you can't hate the player AND the game. Saw a lot of comparisons made this weekend and in the end, it is those comparisons that are the thief of your joy.
How can anyone compare the game between a talented rising MMJ/Reporter like Lex Juarez and a Tik Tok phenom with a massive following of the most sought after demo on the planet?
You can hate on Addison for the blatant humble-brag or you can hate on an industry that rewards quick short-term results over long term effort. Her success comes from her network and the audience she brings, not necessarily differentiated journalism skills. Make no mistake, her career has been a sprint to top and her longevity will depend on her ability to flex and evolve. Sprinter's careers can be but a brief flash.
It's the Lex's of the world who's joy will come from of the differentiated base of skills and accomplishments propelling them forward. For her, this is a marathon not a quick sprint and marathoners have careers that last decades for a reason. They have timeless skills and the grit to endure while the sprinters past them early in the race. Marathoner's know they'll be seeing each other again.
Alarming to me this weekend were the posts from young journalists drawing comparison and lamenting they can't find work after 4 or 5 years in J-school. First and most importantly, different game. Next, consider the player. Addison is a player in her game. Are you a player in yours?
While I absolutely applaud Addison's early success, I also place tremendous value on humility. I would suggest to her it's important be careful on the sprint up because you will be seeing many of the marathoners on the way back down.
In the end, bravo to Addison for creating this weekend's media buzz. She delivered the desired results, again.
To the MMJ's who got a little bent after seeing Addison's post this weekend, hold that head high because you've got completely different game and someone is always watching. The entire TalentBlvd platform is watching. We LOVE the opportunity to host a rock star who's on point and charging like Lex Juarez
Forget the comparison, abandon the jealousy, just go be freakin' great!
