How We Create A Winning Talent Acquisition Strategy!
How would you describe your Talent Acquisition strategy? A brutal race against your competitors? Planting seeds, nurturing, and developing young talent? Maybe you focus your efforts on building a deep bench?
We would all like to have the luxury of a deep talent bench but voluntary attrition the past three years has made a bench impossible. Early career on-camera journalists and producers aren't waiting around to get playing time. They are leaving for a starter's role in record numbers.
Planting seeds at the larger J-schools and nurturing those future relationships takes years before they start bearing fruit. I frequently hear recruiters lamenting that they have to go further and further down in class and ranking. It's commonplace today to see Juniors accepting offers 18 months before they graduate, if they graduate.
Reality is you are getting so far behind that you probably feel like you are running a brutal recruiting marathon, 26 consecutive one-mile sprints, one immediately right after the other.
I've run service organizations made up of thousands of associates and I definitely appreciate the struggle. That's why I sat down with a News Director and Hiring Managers to build TalentBlvd.com. The platform is designed to help NDs both build a talent pipeline AND win the recruiting race against their competitors.
The new 'Favorite' feature allows hiring managers to build out their own future talent bench. When they see a talent they want to keep track of, they mark the profile as a 'Favorite' and it goes directly to their own Favorites folder. New functionality coming this month will allow the folder to be sorted by job title then contract expiration date.
This will allow us to work directly with our Members to vet talent giving them a competitive advantage.
Finally, we put a 'New User' feature in our powerful search and filter menu. This allows NDs to sort and see new users by title and contract expiration date before other non-member hiring managers on our platform. The most successful hiring managers won't be relying on finding talent via the traditional search methods like YouTube or LinkedIn.
We know that talent acquisition and recruiting is an investment and we have recently put together a discounted annual membership rate for our hiring manager and recruiting partners. Hope to see you on TalentBlvd.com soon!
