It's time to embrace our friends, lean in and help open their new chapters!
The business is unforgiving. These are friends of TalentBlvd, personal friends. People's dreams crushed, livelihoods challenged. We need to embrace them, lean in and help open their new chapters.
As I've shared in a number of articles, this happened to me on a Friday afternoon earlier in my career. I wrote the Amazon book "Your Struggle is Reel" from my experiences. It hurts and we have a tendency to take this very personally, questioning what we could have done differently?
It's actually a great time to reset.
In the end, this will open new doors and exciting new career chapters for many. Outcomes will largely depend on attitude, ability to pivot, and preparation.
The three things that I found to be helpful to a career rebound and ability to bounce higher than ever before are:
1. Slow down. Nothing is going to happen in the next 10 mins or 10 hours that is going to change trajectory. Focus on opportunity, the future, not the past. Stay away from social media and bitter people who offer poison and venom. Seek those who are focused on the antidotes and remedies
2. Find context. Seek out others that have been down this road. Embrace mentors and expand your network, thinking about what you can offer to others based on your experiences. The more you give, the more you'll get in return.
3. Your career toolkit is critical right now. Take time to develop timeless skills like constructing killer resumes and reels. Sharpen networking and interview skills. Build a compelling elevator pitch. The quality of the tools in your professional toolkit will be more important than the size of your bank account.
You'll be forever insulated from the uncontrollable events like what happened yesterday at BNC if you approach the future with these three pieces of advice in mind.
TalentBlvd is a mission-oriented organization, not a talent agency. We exist to lift talent up, promote them, coach and mentor. Come join us at TalentBlvd.com https://lnkd.in/dFPmGse
It's also a personal invitation to connect. I have been in your shoes and I want to help anyone who walks in the door. I will email a FREE e-copy of my book "Your Struggle is Reel" to all interested in digging deeper and developing a timeless career toolkit.
Chin up, we've got your back.
