Sarah Pilla, an Emmy-award winning journalist, is on a mission to shed light on the critical intersection of weather, climate, and the environment in our daily lives. With over a decade of reporting on topics from sports to climate to politics, Sarah has spent the last five years at Spectrum News 1 SoCal where she fearlessly tackles pressing environmental issues, from natural disasters to plastic pollution and everything in between.

Recently, Sarah made a significant transition within Spectrum News 1, moving into the station's weather department to amplify her reporting on the climate crisis. As a virtual student with Mississippi State University's meteorology program, she is further honing her expertise to become a trusted voice in climate reporting.

You can catch Sarah live on "Your Morning" on Spectrum News 1, where her reports cover a wide spectrum of environmental topics, including the clean energy transition, the overwhelming amount of plastics in the ocean, and live forecasts at events across Southern California. Through her reporting, Sarah is dedicated to helping viewers grasp the importance of preserving our planet.

Sarah's journey to becoming a leading environmental journalist hasn't been without its challenges. From navigating toxic environments to pivoting into new opportunities, she has shown resilience and determination every step of the way. Transitioning from a sports reporter in Texas, anchoring up to 4 segments a day in San Diego, and becoming an MMJ where she was able to cover a diversity of stories on Arts & Entertainment, Sports, Politics, Lifestyle Health and ultimately environmental stories. Sarah's willingness to adapt and evolve has led her to compound all her knowledge to currently apply her gained skills as a climate reporter who can cover sports and fill in as an anchor.

Reflecting on her experiences, Sarah offers valuable advice to aspiring journalists looking to carve out their niche. She emphasizes the importance of staying proactive, embracing opportunities even when they seem scary, and remaining persistent in the face of rejection. "You have to have ambition and have to believe even when you're not getting the calls, not getting the job and all you get is 'No'. You have to continue to be proactive and keep yourself relevant. Explore and don't be scared to pivot even when something is not working. Things will happen as long as you keep going. The momentum gets you eventually where you want to go."

Sarah's dedication to her craft extends beyond reporting; she is committed to being a catalyst for change in the transition to clean energy. She recognizes the monumental task ahead and believes that through collective effort and perseverance, we can create a more sustainable future by eventually leaving fossil fuels behind.

In Sarah's journey, we find inspiration to embrace uncertainty, seize opportunities, and advocate for the planet. As she continues to make waves in climate reporting, her story serves as a reminder that saying "yes" to the unknown can lead to extraordinary growth and impact.
