Thanksgiving isn't just a Holiday, it's an ACTION
We all know that Thanksgiving is a holiday focused on family, friendship and food. It's easy to forget why we gather together to celebrate and enjoy this yearly feast. Giving thanks is primarily an ACTION and being grateful is an acknowledgement of fellowship.
The practice of happiness
Our happiness is more than a feeling, it's a product of being thankful. It's often said that being happy is a way of thinking that starts with a decision. Like any new skill, it takes practice. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to consciously develop thankfulness.
Although the holiday season is directly related with stress from travel, rushing to finish work before vacation, financial burdens, or even enduring uncomfortable situations with loved ones we don't see often, it's easy to fall into negative reflections during stressful times. Instead, we could initiate change by working towards thankfulness for all that we have.
A very simple, yet practical way towards being thankful is creating a list of the blessings in your life. It could be the simplest things:
- Have a good night's sleep
- Enjoy good coffee
- Read a good book
- Watch an addicting new series
You could be more practical and add your education, modern technology, financial savings, your car or reliable public transportation in your city to your list. Lastly, it might be easier now to work towards a list with deeper meaning that includes your health, the company of your loved ones, the love of your pets, abundant food, or even your home.
- Train at the gym five times a week.
- Spend quality time with family and friends.
- Savor a delicious feast with loved ones.
- Walk my dog around after dinner.
- Sleep in a cozy bed.
Even the simplest tasks we accomplish every day are the depiction of abundance. Creating a list can help put things in perspective to become grateful for what we have while feeling encouraged to share with those in need.
Being thankful for your career
It might be more difficult being thankful for your job if your career is not in the place you're hoping for, or if your looking for your next opportunity. Despite this, it's good to remember that you are where you're meant to be. Every decision you make will lead towards your goals if your manifestation comes from true desires. Your actions and the actions of those around you will lift your career if you surround yourself with empowering peers. Seek mentors and network with diverse professionals that will empower your goals and make you feel naturally grateful.
