The seat to my right is waiting for you, but .....
The seat to my right is waiting for you, but .....
You're 28-32 years old and have been busting your tail to finally get a seat at the table, it's your turn, your opportunity to shine. Then comes a pandemic, your company is sold (Meredith and Quincy to Gray), and your contract is expiring. Yikes!
You were 9 yrs for 9/11, 15 for the Great Recession, younger during the panic of Y2k. The predicted end of the world has come and gone many times just in your lifetime.
What you need to think about is .... perspective. To be successful in 2021 you need perspective and the last place you'll find it is in your Tik Tok, IG or Facebook feeds.
3 things I tell my clients today:
1. Slow down. Nothing is going to happen in the next 10 mins or 10 hours that is going to change trajectory. Think first, don't post.
2. Find context. Yes, people will succumb to this virus. On the other hand, a 37 yr old gave this advice after a week with the virus "get ready to binge watch Netflix"
3. Social media is as much your foe as your friend. Do Not Overreact. History was not kind to Chicken Little.
Take a break from the noise, your career isn't as linear as you think it is. Things are going to get messy and you need to look down on the mess, not wallow around in it.
