The Ultimate CEO: A Mother's Day Tribute

As Mother's Day arrives, it's the perfect moment to reflect on the remarkable influence my mom has had on my life. She truly embodies the qualities of a top-notch CEO and C-Suite executive. Let's consider the unique job description of a mom:

Tenure is crucial. My mom worked 60 straight years without a break, in a relentless 24/7 role. Unlike corporate executives, moms don’t get to choose their teams; they inherit them. Each member of Mom Co. is essentially a piece of raw clay, genetically predisposed, and in desperate need of guidance from day one.

Depending on the day, a mom could be a referee, counselor, teacher, agent, coach, mentor, role model, judge, jury, or even an executioner. Moms switch hats at a moment's notice, tackling each role with grace.

In business, the CEO and C-Suite executives handle a variety of responsibilities: identifying opportunities, creating strategy, building operating plans, keeping teams on track, measuring performance, and maintaining team engagement through best practices and policies. Moms do all this and more without any help from the EEOC. My mom instinctively knew what was fair and enforced performance management with impeccable judgement. She set the rules for our entire family, ensuring everyone was taken care of.

Somehow, she always knew who, what, and where—birthdays, anniversaries, parties, practices, recitals, and weddings. You name it; she was on top of it. Finances? Dad might have earned the money, but mom knew how to stretch it, turning a Holiday Inn into the Ritz Carlton. She managed supplies, transportation, scheduling, and even tackled unforeseen problems like car trouble and rainouts with ease.

Today, we celebrate moms, but let's not forget that their impact is felt every single day. My mom's enduring influence has shaped me into the person I am. I hope you've had a mother figure to guide you through life's many twists and turns. If you do, take a moment to make them feel appreciated —today and every day.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers, in every sense of the word.
