Which Do You Put First, Career or Love?
Which Do You Put First, Career or Love?
The question, which do you put first, career or love? This Valentine's Day, think about this: When it comes to your career, walking with a partner in the dark and difficult times is better than walking alone in the light of your success.
Successful relationships, whether personal or professional, always have a partnership defined by how both parties adapt to change. The reality is that both types of relationships aren't mutually exclusive. For example, my career took off because of the unconditional support of my partner. Consequently, my marriage was enriched by the opportunities afforded to us by my career.
Ever-changing partnerships
During my career, I've had 18 different jobs across seven different companies and industries. I'm sure my wife thought I couldn't keep a job. At the same time, my wife and I joke about how we've been married for one year, thirty six times. Relocations, different jobs, our children, their school… all these milestones maintain our partnership ever-changing.
Approach both partnerships, career and love, with your eyes open. Understand that today's summer of love can quickly turn into a winter of frigid darkness, both personally and professionally. But don't worry because Spring is always around the corner to bring hope.
